Milk thistle's healing and nutritive properties

Milk thistle has been used for thousands of years as a holistic medicine. It's fruit, leaves and seeds are all used. The most powerful component of Milk thistle is silymarin, which is one of many phytochemicals produced in the plant. This herb comes in capsule form, but unlike other herbs, cannot be brewed into a tea and retain it's nutritive properties because it is not water soluable. It's best taken in capsule form two to three times a day.

Purifying and protection of the liver

Milk thistle is widely known for it's ability to purify and protect the liver as well as stimulate the production of new liver cells. It is a wonderful supplement to take if you rely heavily on pain medications like acetametophin, consume alcohol regularly, or smoke, all of which make the liver work harder. And because the liver is responsible for filtering our blood, the liver's function impacts everything from the skin to the bowels. Remember, Milk Thistle is a friend to your liver, and therefore to your entire body!

Soothing properties of Milk thistle

Milk thistle also has properties that moisten and soothe mucous membranes. It's ability to heal skin disorders like acne and psoriasis, are two-fold. Milk Thistle helps with the purification of the blood, which directly impacts our largest organ, the skin, but also, milk thistle also soothes and moisturizes problematic and irritated skin!

Digestive aid

This purifying herb is also useful for digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome. Because of it's ability to regulate the mucous lining of the intestines and increase bile production, milk thistle helps with both consitipation and diarrhea, stabilizing the bowel. It also protects the kidneys and is good for gallbladder and adrenal disorders, as well as having demonstrated anticancer effects against breast and prostate cancer.

Milk Thistle: Your purifying partner in a dirty world!

Milk thistle has many qualities that make it worthwhile to the average person. As our bodies try to cope with pesticides, pollution, fast food, alcohol, medications and stress, this is an herb that should be considered an aid in purifying all the body's systems and used as a regular part of your healthy living. As with all supplements, talk to your doctor before taking.

Thanks RTalloni- yes I do. I have taken it for a long time for persistent acne. I get clearer skin within days of taking it. I also have had major back issues and taken a LOT of medication for it so I have taken it for my liver's sake! It really does help regulate the intestinal system, too. Thanks for your comment-

Very informative. I know about the milk thistle since we

have them growing here in Greece, but did not know it could help the liver.
